• used as a soothing, digestive aid for dyspeptic complaints
• used as an expectorant for bronchial illness, coughs and colds
During antiquity, angelica was revered as a superior remedy throughout northern Europe “for curing every conceivable malady”, including “poisons, agues and all infectious maladies… According to one legend, Angelica was revealed in a dream by an angel to cure the plague.”
Angelica is a good remedy for colds, coughs, pleurisy, wind, colic, rheumatism and diseases of the urinary organs. It is generally used as a stimulating expectorant; combined with other expectorants the action of which is facilitated, and to a large extent diffused, through the whole of the pulmonary region.
Eclectic physicians valued angelica for treating chronic bronchitis and “promptly relieve flatulence and wind colic.”
Angelica root is approved for loss of appetite, peptic discomforts such as mild spasms of the gastrointestinal tract and the feeling of fullness.
Naturopathic physician William A. Mitchell Jr., ND calls angelica an expectorant, renal stimulant and antiarthritic for gouty arthritis.
Laboratory studies have found potent anti-mutagenic (cancer prevention) properties , anti-cancer effects (breast cancer in animals), and anti-ulcerogenic (prevents and heals stomach ulcers) benefits.

A Note On Tinctures
Tinctures are more readily absorbed by the body and have a high degree of bio-availability. As well, they have a long shelf life.
Sometimes people ask us why tinctures are alcohol-based. There are very good reasons. Alcohol is critically important in the extraction of an herb's medicinal ingredients. It also helps to stabilize and preserve them. Alcohol is the ideal carrier substance, conveying the therapeutic goodness of the herb to the body. In itself, too, science has proven that alcohol enhances the immune system and its defences.
As for the amount of alcohol taken in an average dose of tincture, you'll be surprised to learn that it's about the same as what you'd find in an overly ripe banana!
Tinctures remain the most practical way to take advantage of the amazing, health-giving power of herbs.

You have been able to capture the healing essence of the plants in your tinctures in a way no other company has so far.
"When I started my naturopathic practice in June 1990, I started using St. Francis Herb Farm products. Since then I have seen over 1200 clients and almost every one has benefited from your products. I have a special affinity with plants and have felt that you have been able to capture the healing essence of the plants in your tinctures in a way no other company has, so far. Certainly my clients agree with me. The healing power of the herbs seems more accessible, more present in your products than in others. For this we all thank you."
